Zeiss is the first to do this, ZM 35/2 & 50/2 modified to Loxia with identical optical formulas.
Zeiss made fine adjustments of the lens element position to compensate for the optical path changed by the glass stack in front of the sensor. The MTF of the Zeiss showed substantial improvements and more differences vs the Leica.
As far as I've heard, the Zeiss MTF were all measured while Leica ones were calculated, but I couldn't prove this. The thing to note is that calculated MTF should be discounted (at 1/3 to 1/2 as said) vs measured ones.
The Leica lenses show little differences on the respective MTF. Also, the new versions have not been better in all situations. I can only reason that the glass stack thickness on the Leica sensors are thinner (approx.1mm vs over 2mm of the Sony) and the adjustments required were smaller and the resulting benefit would be lesser too.
The new lenses should also show some improvement when used on the Sony.
Wish there will be some comparison test soon. |
