I was browsing through my pictures and there're a few points to add.. occasionally (normally accidentally) when I managed to take advantage of the distortion of a wide angle lens, the result can be quite surprising.

This one is taken with the ZM 21/4.5, and actually it's a very small tree by a small slope, but appeals to be quite big in this picture...




Another interesting thing about wide angle lenses is that they can "compress" very different things together, like things that are very different in size, or are very far apart.  This picture is taken in Wan Chai, again with the ZM 21/4.5 (my favorite wide angle lens!)

I love to shoot people with 21mm as well.
I would try as much as possible to frame subject in centre to avoid distortion of the face.
This one was waist-level, sneak shot at distance no more than 2 meters to the subject.

This attractive Japanese lady was very eager to let me take pictures of her.
I swear, I wished I had a 50mm lens with me at that moment.

How close did you stand from the lady ?

I always find it difficult to shoot people with wide ... they all becomes too small.
My own "comfortable distance" from the object makes me feel easier to shoot people with 50 / 75 ... ...

I guess I was about 3-4 meters away from her, kneeling down as usual when I use a 21mm to shoot people.
(kneeling down in front of such beautiful and friendly lady was a joy, anyway)

I believe, as long as the person is willing to let you take a picture, he/she wouldn't mind you step very close even at less than a meter.
Nowadays, people are very much accustomed to shoot themselves with a smart phone at only an arm's length.
They wouldn't feel intimidated unless you use a big machine like DSLR pro models.

The comfort distance is probably our own obstacle limiting ourselves. Once we break from such comfort zone, the 21mm is a fascinating experience for portrait.

唉， 原本完全冇諗過入支wide 過 35既鏡，比你講一講，又整張單車呀叔相鳥一鳥， 尼次又累我去揾支21tim........

super wide 真難用, 我已放棄了, 連支21都賣左, 太遲先看到這類post, 唔通又買番來再試

My first 21mm is also a Super Angulon, a Schneider design.
Very good lens and not expensive if you go for the f/4 version.
