yes, nikon non-ai (or someone call pre-ai) lens has to be modified to ai mount, it can then be put on a modern nikon DSLR, with center weight metering and aperture priority (A mode), as well as focus confirmation light (for mode D200 and above), on some pro gear 仲有光圈連動 (i.e. the aperture that you chose will be showed in the LED of the viewfinder).

i bought the lens which are all being modified to Ａi mount.

by my lovely F3, and film was kodak ektar 100 (in fact i like Portra 160 for portrait but on that day i didn't have that film in hand ....)

現在聽番，覺得 md4 卷片聲 = 爆炸咁！

以前用F3HP+MD4覺得靜咗，因為再之前係用F2AS+MD2。重有58mm/1.2 Noct。依家好懷念佢地...

Nikon F - one of my favourites as well, but only with plain prism.
