What is the competitive advantage of Leica ?

Seems most of the new products launced lately were not widely accepted by Lecia's fans. Wonder what they are going to do to stay ahead of competiton.

Leica is in a number of niche markets:

1.  Luxury/brand name goods market
2.  Serious amateur/semi-professional market
3.  Professional market

Recent Leica products make sense in all three:

1.  Luxury/brand name products - X vario
2.  Serious amateur/semi-professional - Monochrom
3.  Professional - S 006 + new S lenses

I think Leica is doing well in what it does well.  I am less worried about Leica AG than some.

The only weapon they have is... LEICA brandname

I think Leica S becomes a much more attractive system after the introduction of adapter-H and adapter-C.
as far as I know, very few professionals use Leica S though (at least up to now).

For the M system, apart from brand name and cultural legacy, I would say that the rangefinder experience is something quite unique. I'm a bit disappointed by the form factor by digital M though. I hope it can be a little bit smaller, getting closer to M6/MP.

But competitive edge of Leica? I don't know whether this company is competitive at all!
