Hard disk storage 請教

今日又有一隻western digital HDD 死咗，好彩有backup。所以要諗下一個更完善的photo storage solution。

我本身用mac，大概有 3-4 TB 相，依家分幾隻external hard disk 載住，但係好唔方便。

我暫時考慮緊 NAS 方案，用 Synology DS416J ($2400)，佢有四個bay，暫時先買兩隻 4TB WD Red NAS Hard Drive (ard $1200) 行Raid。
另外，再用一隻本身用緊嘅 6TB external HDD 做 Time machine backup。

如果咁做我只需要投資around $5000。


呢個係唔係好嘅方法？定係有其他更好嘅方案／品牌？

NAS 未必適合每個人，尤其是單單當一個個人用的ext drive，又冇多用其他功能。
可能mybook duo更適合你，或者，唔知，可能，有機會。

我用Netgear NAS  6 Bay 行RAID，就算死一隻HD都唔會lost data，ebay 買個殻平好多。

早排問過公司內IT同事，佢建議買有+的Synology型號，例如DS415+，我唔記得有咩好處，然後另一個同事用緊DS1515+，向我示範用iphone6點樣access佢個photo library, 我見preview得好快，似乎身邊好多攝影朋友都喺用synology，我本身鐘意Drobo，因為唔需要買同spec的harddisk，甚至喺SSD都可以溝埋一齊用。

Netgear 有自己的 RAID，只要有兩隻相同size的HD就會用到佢真正的storage size，我覺得Netgear 比其他廠靚，機都重過人加上有三把風扇，最重要行得快，我剛買左部QNAP HS251+ 行SSD，我部5年前的Netgear 開機快一倍以上。

Sony 好似有出比電視台用的80T  byte 專業用HDD，日播夜播都頂得住。。。

NAS唔係Backup..... 初初聽到一位高人咁講我唔明，
直至我去年年尾部過咗保養半年嘅NAS死底板我就明了。
之後我就有不同的安排。
有一點大家要小心謹慎考慮嘅，就是選擇用那種RAID⋯⋯在那種非常情況..... 會有那種後果。

mybook duo 都係一個方法，但佢最大都係得8GB，行raid得4GB用。暫時仲係夠用嘅，但係好快就會唔夠。

我諗住用NAS最大嘅原因係個storage可以expand，同埋可以自己揀比較high quality嘅HDD。

但係NAS嘅setup的確比較麻煩，而且唔可以直接係lightroom行catalog係NAS。

另外我的確係擔心NAS會死底板，但我諗Mybook duo行raid都一樣有呢個風險？

我曾經考慮過這樣︰

(1) Primary data storage on local HDD (either external or internal) in my Mac;
(2) Sync this HDD to a NAS from time to time as a storage backup;
(3) Sync the NAS to cloud storage automatically for tertiary backup.

For (3), as far as I know, Amazon cloud drive is the cheapest (but not as "fancy" as other services in terms of features), it's something like US 60 per year for unlimited storage. And I heard Synology NAS support syncing to Amazon cloud drive automatically. You may want to take a look on that.

I use Raid 1 Nas and Carbon Copy backup to a 3rd external hardest. Besides, I will also make another copy occasionally and place it in office.

best solution imo is to do NAS with regular backups to two different drives/sets of drives, one kept on site and one kept off site.

cryptolock is so deadly, i got hit once but luckily I happened to realize what was happening half way and just manually shut down and physically removed the drives prior to those getting encrypted as well... close call, after that i start doing monthly multiple physical copies backup and also keeping full size jpgs on cloud.

If you run NAS, i would suggest you spend for more quality drives than the REDs, something like a hitachi ultrastars or WD RE and SE drives.

Exactly, I once got a dead Raid 1 and both hard disks corrupted. I thought
I had lost all my photos. I was heart breaking and when I told my 7 year-old son that time, he cried so hard.....
Luckily, I was able to recovered all photos after a few sleepless nights. So now I basically have 4 copies, one of which kept offsite...

and just want to share the experience.  when cryptolock lock hits you, your computer becomes quite a bit slower than normal, that is usually a sign since the cryptolock script attempts to encrypt all target file types on your company which will require substantial resource.
