quite some lovely photos from both hothmonnkey and zaurus ching!
I will also share my thoughts here on taking photos of my daughter...
I think it all really comes down to auto focus vs manual focus instead of the long age battle between film and digital. For me, I think before 1.5 years old, even manual focus does not pose much of a challenge but once kids start to run around more it really tests your manual focus skills and ability. When that does happen one will need to rely on understanding the subject more in order to predict what happens within the short few seconds of trying to capture the shot. Also every child is different as well, luckily my daughter is fairly used to me taking photos of her - which might not be too surprising considering I have close to 5500 shots of her on Flickr. For myself, I do not limit myself to a particular format (135 or medium format) or medium (digital vs film) but what I do want to say is to really understand your gear fully and at times use the right tool for the job. From my perspective, the photo taking process is not just for self gratification but also to really capture the moment at its best such that in the future I can look back and re-live that moment and my daughter can look back to see how far she has come in life and that she should always remember every single piece of it as well whether it be tears or laughter. In terms of quantity of shots taken, my take on it is that you can never take too many as long as you remember what you really want to capture, storage is cheap so why not? I would suggest to go all out and have the ability to pick your shot after. Time flies, life is too short and kids grow too quickly.
