haha... it is a difficult question!!!
i think using digital medium format is another experience. the details, micro contrast, color fidelity are not something smaller formats could give. and the high resolution gives a lot of flexibility in cropping. it is also a big advantage.
i think pentax 645D is the best buy now. i have both Hasselblad H4D-40 and Pentax 645D. they use the same sensor. but the pentax is just a fraction of H4D's cost.
but with that said, after really using both cameras, i have to say Hasselblad actually is worth every penny. the auto focus system of Pentax is fairly fast, and accurate. BUT the lenses are not, all my lenses have front / back focus issues, which need +/- adjustments of each one. what a pain! pentax lenses clearly have production variance issue. for Hasseblad, every lens is tack sharp. in fact, hasselblad doesn't even have that +/- adjustment function. it doesn't need it!
i think P645D is a great landscape / travel camera. it is weather-sealed. it gives very good out-of-the-box color. one only needs very small post processing adjustment. it also has ISO 100-1600. (1600 is usable), which is good enough for 90% of situations.
but for professional jobs, particularly portrait and fashion. Hasselblad is still the king. "True focus" is extremely useful for high resolution portraits. and the building quality, accuracy, lens quality of hasseblad are much better. and the files from H4D are still clearly better than those of 645D, even though they use the same sensor. Clearly better dynamic range, more faithful color, etc.
so... i think probably i didn't really answer your question. but i think P645D is a great choice, especially for its price now. |
