You're probably 99% correct in how they create the model nomenclature.

I guess Leica didn't create this styling with any intention to please or impress M users.
Therefore whether it's ugly, bulky, or resembling to A7 is irrelevant as its target, the professionals, has no burden/expectation of how a Leica tool should look.
Afterall, the pros have been using huge cameras and lenses in the past decades that Canon and Nikon produce.

Also, a big portion of amateurs are used to Canikon's bigness as well.
Now it's a Leica!
Gee, it's great, must buy!

Well, Porsche makes Panamera that disappointed when first launched thousands and thousands of 911 diehards but it draws many Merc E and S potential buyers.

This is a very daring move by Leica. Looking at the design, size, spec and price, I can't figure out where they think the source of business will be coming from.
I think there would be close to zero chance that a meaningful number of current M, Canon, Nickon, Sony, Phase I, Hasselbald HD..... users would go for brand switching for this one.

Looking at the very many reviews which are already out, I must say I'm already half convinced.
I'm not posting the review links here becoz they're a dime a dozen.

I might buy one when the initial price comes down. 280mm @ f/4 looks pretty useful to me, particularly with a 2x converter which sooner or later will surely come out. But then I just heard autofocus wanders beyond 50mm for 4 seconds. At 280mm I guess by the time the shutter clicks the lion in my safari trip might have already eaten me.....??

Of course, if the same sensor (or better) is put in the successor to M240, then I'll buy the M240 successor instead.
