Indeed, even the GE7044 is brighter than the KR211.

You are right, it is that glow that makes 211 so mesmerising. Turn off the light in the room and the 211s have become the focal point! Even light up the faceplate of the pre amp at the back!

Totally concurred.

So far, this is the only disappointment I have with the KR211

It seems like the glow varnished from a 15W light bulb to a 3W :-C

Amongst all the magic about tube amps, it is the glow that makes listening visually more pleasing than solid state.

After tube rolling from GE7044 to Philips 5687WB on the other day, I have put a tube cooler over the 5687 to help dissipating the heat as it seems running at a considerable temperature.



I probably will put a Mullard CV4003 to replace the Marconi B329 early next week to see how it works out.

Meanwhile, I am waiting for the delivery of several NOS tubes from abroad and shall try them out once received.
These include:

RFT ECC82,
RCA 5814 Black Plates with 3 mica,
Ei ECC82,

Amperex 7119,
Tungsol 5687 Black Plates with big D-getter, and
Sylvania 5687 Black Plates.

As far as I understand, Kondo and Audio Note UK are quite fond of 5687 and widely use it in their products.

Meanwhile, how is Amperex 5687? Have you tried other brands?

The tube cooler that I used without the rubber rings is from Pearl Inc. Coincidently, I also put EAT KT88 on my Air Tight Acoustic Masterpiece M101 SET amp.

I have had the Amperex 5687s for years and they are part of the Gakouh as far as I can remember. The sound is lightning fast, wide and deep. Orchestral or Jazz are equally great. Being mono blocks, they are easier to position nearer to speakers than say the Ongaku.

自從新玩具入主，已將本来的 Electro Harmonix EH211 分别換上 Psvane WE211 及 KR Audio KR211 作比對，最终感覺 KR211 的表现較合意，决定長期選用。

至于那兩隻 driver tubes，近來也做過一個小小的 tube rolling exercise，嘗試了三個组合，分别是:
(1) Tungsol black plate D-getter 5687＋RFT ECC82;
(2) Amperex 7119+RCA black plate triple mica 5814A; 及
(3) Amperex 7119+Mullard CV4003。

正如Peter Qvortrup 所述，用5687家族配上12AU7家族這個胆組合本來的目的就是 "avoid too much of a character"。這即是已说明5687同12AU7 胆的声音特性在新玩具上本來就不一样，甚至是走兩極。在新玩具 tube rolling 這段期間，我感覺5687家族的胆大多是分析力較高，而且高頻比較亮麗，對声音的細緻度及 soundstage 影响較深。另一方面，12AU7似乎對中低頻、音乐感及声音密度、soundstage等卻較為敏感。同時我亦發現，無論是7119、5687、5814A 或 12AU7、ECC82 也好，大體上都有不同程度的 microphonic 問題，需要多加留意。

因為這兩枝胆的特性不同，正好有利調教個人喜歡的声音，以配合整套音响系统，實在玩得不亦樂乎

昨天在网上找到一篇约2003年發表的文章，其中提及用 Tungsol 5687 加 Ei ECC82 的配搭。刚好我也有這兩枚胆管，所以也嘗試玩玩吧。

我用的胆管是 1952年出產的 Tungsol 5687 black plate D-getter 及南斯拉夫打仗前出產的舊裝 Ei ECC82.

這個配搭在我的音响组合中似乎高頻没那麽亮麗，hifi 感亦不算强，但聲音卻不但非常滑溜及自然，而且有濃濃的音樂感，各音頻的平衡度把握得很好，一口气聽上五、六個小時也完全没有耳倦的感覺。正因為如此，所以會令人忘却時閒，將擁有的 LP/CD 一張張地聽下去。

最重要的，這種聲音及况態也正好是我追求的、喜歡的
