Outdoor with ND filter and wide open

JCR33師兄mind share which ND filter do you use?  I heard some may have cooler color cast.  To your experience, how many stop is practical for M9 use under sunlight?  I know 0.9 or 8x will be good but afraid more color cast relative to less stop one.

Hi,

I am using an 8x ND filter and with M9 I use ISO80 for outdoor shooting. I find the colors to be more vibrant and the bokeh is so c/dreamy.

With Noct, I try shooting from distance of 3m+, that way, the object is sharp and pop out from the background.

As I am just a amateur without formal training, trial and error is my way to learn. Of course, visiting and viewing other masters' work here and other sites give me a lot of opportunities to steal ideas from them!

thanks for reply and the first pict is really nice one best illustrate the classic highlight rendering, the most adorable aspect for this lens to me.
May I know your ND 8x is B+W 0.9 MRC like following, trying to be sure not getting a wrong one:

Not just in Australia.

If we are to use Noct wide open outdoor during the day, it is more than likely that the exposure will be over. So the only way to get that c/dreaming feeling outdoor is to use ND filter and 8 x seems to be just right for me. I have used a variable one but did not like the effect as it is hard to adjust another factor when you have only a split second to capture the moment.

This was taken in Japan and it was a cloudy and rainy day.




Oh, the place where I took the first photo is called Wisemans Ferry in NSW.

The town is a tourist spot with picnic and barbecue facilities. As well as a rich convict and colonial heritage in the area, the Dharug National Park andYengo National Park are close by.

This one was taken inside a hot spring in Beppu, our family had a great holiday there last month.

I am very happy with the sharpness, color and tone, even in a very steamy and dark space.
